about
'Catch Me If You Can' was written a year or so after 'Bandaids'. Between 'Bandaids' and CMIYC, vocalist and lyricist Katherine Kelly had ended her toxic relationship and was dating, but not yet wanting a relationship. It's about suitors who believed that they could change her mind about settling down into a serious relationship. The chorus was written shortly after the verses, and you can see a slightly different tone of bitterness her; "...But even if you do, you'll just run away; I'm a siren captivate you with all hell to pay..." This was in reference to a very brief but intense romance that for a moment, made Katherine feel like she may be ready for something real after all, only to be ghosted on. Her fear of scaring people away with her mood swings and increasing complications with anxiety weighed on her.
lyrics
Catch Me If You Can
I'm a stone cold lover, walk alone, no looking back
No star crossed lover, this wolf has finally left its pack
Well, I was locked up for years, but now I'm running free
I am stronger, I am wiser, you cannot catch me
But catch me if you can…Catch me if you can...
But I bet you won't
& even if do you, you'll just run away
I'm a siren, captivate you with all hell to pay
& you can try, you can try until your dying day
But oh, no no no, you will not catch me
You will not catch me
But catch me if you can
Catch me if you can
String up your bait & watch me dance for you
I'll let you think you've won, but I am wild & free
Oh no no no, honey, you can't catch me
Well just maybe, just maybe you will not cage me
But I'm not risking all I've built so you can try to save me
But catch me if you can…Catch me if you can...
But I bet you won't
& even if do you, you'll just run away
I'm a siren, captivate you with all hell to pay
& you can try, you can try until your dying day
But oh, no no no, you will not catch me
You will not catch me
But catch me if you can
Catch me if you can
